Overview
Timket meaning baptism in Ge’ez, is one of the most important and colorful religious festivals in Ethiopia. It commemorates the baptism of Jesus Christ in the Jordan River by John the Baptist. Celebrated annually on January 19 (or January 20 in a leap year), Timket is a vibrant expression of faith, unity, and tradition within the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church.

In the morning, you will start your visit by drive for about 50 Min to Entoto mountain to see the panoramicviews of the city with fresh air from the eucalyptus forest and relax Maximum of 30 Min and visit ShiroMeda which is a great local market in Addis Ababa especially for locally hand woven cotton womendresses decorated with embroidery as you can find traditional closes.Lunch at a local restaurant After having lunch, you will experience the celebration of Timket which starts on the afternoon of19th January, known as ’Ketera’, which refers to the making of a dam, as it is common to make a dam inplaces where there is no river water for the celebration of Timket. The “Tabot” (replica of the Ark of theCovenant) is taken out of each church and borne aloft by high priests to the nearest river, lake or pondwhere the communal baptism is to take place the next day.You will attend the procession by chanting and dancing crowds in dazzling white traditional dress, whichcontrasts with the colors of the ceremonial robes and sequined velvet umbrellas of the priests. The Tabotsstay overnight near the water and ceremonies continue overnight.Meal: Breakfast, Lunch & DinnerOvernight: Minimum (4*) Hotel 

This morning is where the main Timket celebration starts, and the ceremony begins with pre-sunriserituals, which include the Kidane (Morning Prayer) and the Kidasie (the divine clergy).Then follows the blessing and sprinkling of blessed water on the assembled congregation incommemoration of Christ’s baptism. It takes the better part of the day before the procession breaks up toreturn the Tabots to the churches in the afternoon. By afternoon, all the Tabots (except the Tabot from St.Michael’s Church), are returned to their respected churches in a procession with the priests and youngpeople animated and leaping like King David in the Bible.farewell dinner in a traditional restaurant with music and dance.Meal: Breakfast, Lunch and DinnerAnd Transfer to the airport to take your international flight
