After breakfast, we will travel to Mabamba Swamp is one of the known natural habitats for the elusive Shoebill Storks in Africa. It is about 12km from Entebbe town when you drive west to only enjoy a canoe that opens to the lily pads and papyrus swamp. Mabamba Swamp is an extensive marsh stretching through a long narrow bay, fringed with papyrus towards the western main body of Lake Victoria. We then access the swamp in local fishing boat / Canoe with a local guide. Our site guide highly recommends the boat tour across Lake Victoria thus, reaching Mabamba by boat, rather than by car which grants an opportunity to encounter birdlife and the fishing community. The best time to visit is early morning hours and afternoon when the birds start to prey.
Nevertheless, other birdlife includes the Swamp flycatcher, African purple swamp hen, African water rail, Pallid Harrier, Papyrus Gonolek, White-winged Warbler and the Blue Swallow Common moorhen, lesser jacana, African jacana, African pygmy Goose, White-faced whistling duck, Squacco heron, Blue Breasted Bee-eater, winding cisticola, Goliath Heron and many others, thus if you are a keen birder then this is a place to be!
